Police Aircraft Replacement (Helicopter)
The Mesa Police Department operates three police helicopters
to provide aerial police patrol throughout the City of Mesa.
These helicopters directly support the police officers
performing crime prevention and crime suppression activities at
ground-level. In addition, they are used to assist with search
and rescue and firefighting operations when needed.
The City would purchase a new helicopter to replace a 1996-model
helicopter that has more than 19,000 flight hours. Based on
industry standards, this helicopter has exceeded the useful life
for a police aircraft. Replacement of the aircraft would enable
the Police Department to continue to operate a safe and
efficient fleet of helicopters used as part of its public safety
