Development & Sustainability Department partners with our
customers and citizens to promote and maintain quality
development and a sustainable community.
Environmental & Sustainability ensures that
residents of the City of Mesa are provided with a clean, safe and
environmentally sound community. We promote sustainable development and the
use of renewable resources, and oversee that City operations comply with
environmental regulations.
Long Range Planning - The staff in this area work with
elected officials, appointed boards, and citizens to develop
long range plans for the growth and development of the community
and for sub areas of the community.
Entitlement Services - The staff in this area work with
applicants to process rezonings, site plans, use permits,
variances and plats to prepare property for development in
accordance with the City's General Plan. This group also
processes annexations and administers the historic preservation
program.
Coordination of
Transportation/Utility/Engineering requirements for Project
development.
Plan Review services are provided for land development
activities. The Plans Examiners provide comprehensive and
detailed examinations of the submittals for development permits.
Projects are reviewed for compliance and conformance to City
ordinances, regulations, policies and the adopted life safety
codes.
Permit Services issues "building permits" for construction on
private property and "Right of Way" permits for the construction
or modification of the public infrastructure.
Inspection Services is responsible for inspecting new and
existing construction, buildings and structures for compliance
with federal, state, and local code and ordinance requirements
as well as conformance to approved plans and issued permits.
Inspection Services inspects new and existing buildings and
appurtenances in the process of construction with building,
electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire and zoning codes.
Code Compliance is responsible for the
enforcement of the Public Nuisances, Property Maintenance and
Neighborhood Preservation Ordinance; the Zoning Ordinance; and
the Sign Ordinance. These ordinances protect the public
safety and welfare and preserve property value.
