Mesa Cemetery Expansion
Project Number 01-333-001
10/29/2012
The City of Mesa has selected
Green Landscaping &
Irrigation to expand the Mesa Cemetery between Center and
Country Club Drive north of Brown Road.
During construction, your contact for Green
Landscaping & Irrigation is Brian Crawford at (602) 312-8264.
This project is completed.
The Mesa Cemetery was established in 1891 and has been
serving the community for over a century. To meet the
continuing demand, the Cemetery has expanded several times over
the years.
The overall size of the Mesa Cemetery
is approximately 55 acres, with approximately 1,100 plots
remaining unsold. As available inventory decreases, plot
sales will become more difficult because there will be fewer
options available for customer consideration. The current
expansion will be approximately five acres in size, providing
1,261 additional plots for adults and 360 for infants on the
north side of the cemetery. Future planned expansions will
add an additional 8 acres and approximately 6,000 additional
plots to the cemetery.
Portions of the cemetery are currently irrigated with
potable water and portions with water withdrawn from the
adjacent Salt River Project (SRP) canal (non-potable water).
This project will upgrade the existing pump station to allow the
entire cemetery, including all current and future expansion
areas to be sprinkler irrigated with non-potable water. This is
estimated to save the City approximately $50,000 per year in
water costs.
The recommended total award amount
for this project is $745,143.44 based on the lowest bid of
$677,403.13, plus an additional $ 67,740.31 (10% allowance for
change orders). Funding is available in the FY 11/12
Cemetery Capital Program.
