Desert Trail Park: McDowell & Recker Park
Project Number CP0122

Project Updates

Valley Rain Construction has been awarded the contract and issued the notice to proceed.

Grand Opening for Desert Trail Park is scheduled for November 15, 2014.

Project Schedule

Construction began June 16, 2014 and is estimated to be completed in November 2014.

Project Details

At the northeast corner of McDowell and Recker Road is a beautiful 6-acre piece of land covered in native desert vegetation and a 60 foot high knoll that is centered in the parcel. The site is currently a open space with a city reservoir that has been well positioned on the north slope of the land.

The City of Mesa has programmed a sensitive approach to utilizing the property for non-motorized recreational uses through a wide variety of trails and viewing pods. The plan includes a 1-mile multi-use walking/hiking trail that is the key backbone  trail designed for most user levels. A 1-mile long mountain biking trail will meander up and down while circling the central knoll to create a variety of riding conditions. The controlled, yet rugged bike trail will provide a true mountain bike experience. The park will also include a BMX track, restrooms, ramadas and parking.
