Mesa City Center
Project No. CP0013

Project Updates

The City of Mesa completed an RFQ process to select consultants to design a conceptual master plan. Three firms were selected and are currently under contract negotiations. Once conceptual designs are completed they will be taken to City of Mesa management for direction.

Mesa City Council recently approved a City staff recommendation to select Colwell Shelor + West 8 + Weddle Gilmore to lead the design process to transform 18 acres surrounding Mesa's City Plaza building, between Main Street and First Street, into a proposed City Center, or urban plaza.

The next steps in the process are to negotiate a professional services contract and receive additional public input for design changes.

Questions or comments on the project may be directed to Development and Sustainability Project Manager Jeff McVay at (480) 644-5379 or jeff.mcvay@mesaaz.gov

Project Schedule

The design of a conceptual master plan is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2014.

Project Details

The City of Mesa and downtown leadership are interested and are researching the viability of a downtown urban plaza near Center and Main Streets. The concept came out of the iMesa public outreach process. Development of conceptual plans is anticipated with input from community stakeholders to create an events plaza, pedestrian mall, and public gathering place.
