Mayor's Youth Committee
|
The Mayor's Youth Committee
is a select group of juniors and seniors from high
schools throughout Mesa. Each year, school principals
and counselors choose students through a competitive
process to represent their school on the committee.
MYC is a year-long program where students attend
monthly meetings, participate in community service
opportunities, tour city departments and projects, and
research current city issues. The students interact with
the Mayor, City Council and City staff on a regular
basis to learn the ins and outs of city government.

The capstone project for the program
is the Mayor's iAssignment based on the current
iMesa initiative. MYC
members work in teams to develop a transformational community
project for submission to the iMesa brainstorming process. MYC
members present their ideas to the Mayor and Council with
comprehensive, well thought-out arguments including visual
presentations to support their research. Two MYC iMesa ideas
from the 2011 class are part of the bond package on the November
2012 ballot.
Students who successfully complete the requirements of the MYC
program participate in a special graduation ceremony in the
spring with the Mayor and their friends and family in
attendance.
