Mesa police investigate murder-suicide
On June 24, 2009 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Mesa
police officers responded to 2054 E. Encanto for a
reported shooting at this location. Officers located
two deceased young adults in the front yard of the
residence, the result of apparent gunshot wounds.
Initial reports were that a female, who lived at the
residence, was confronted by a known male.
The investigation revealed that the victim,
Ashley DeWitte (18) and the suspect, Eric Serdechny
(20) had been dating for less than six months. They
recently broke up and Ashley was expecting Eric to
arrive at her residence to discuss the break up.
When Eric arrived, Ashley walked out the front door
to contact him and Eric fired several shots fatally
wounding her. Eric then turned the hand gun on
himself. There was no prior history of violence.
