The primary goals of Mesa Fire Prevention are life safety and property protection through education, inspection and enforcement.
Fire Prevention is responsible for performing fire inspections, education and enforcement of adopted codes and ordinances, conducting fire investigations, issuing the Fire Safety Operational Permit (FSOP), conducting records searches, issuing permits for special events, burning (pit barbecue, bonfire), and blasting. The division also investigates complaints regarding possible fire hazards in occupancies (excludes one and two family dwellings and home based businesses) and maintains fire records for occupancies in the City of Mesa.
Fire Inspectors perform inspections of all medium and high-hazard occupancies (excludes one and two family dwellings and home based businesses) and trained volunteers make Business Education Safety Training (BEST) visits to low hazard occupancies in Mesa to assist our community in eliminating hazards to create and/or maintain a safe environment. Occupancy type, use, and size define how Risk Classifications are established.
Fire Investigators conduct fire investigations to determine the origin and cause of fires in Mesa and assist with the fire investigations in other valley cities.
