Traffic Signal Maintenance and Operation

The City of Mesa manages the operation of more than 400 traffic
signals using a computerized system called an Intelligent
Transportation System (ITS) designed to tie the operation to a
single control center. The Transportation Management Center
(TMC) is the core of the operation where traffic signals are
synchronized, timings are adjusted and protected turning phases
are added.

The TMC operates in real-time so certain situations can be
reacted to right away such as an accident or planned changes can
be implemented with construction projects.
The City of Mesa also maintains and repairs traffic signals,
flashing school zones and illuminated street name signs while
also inspecting the work of contractors constructing new
signals.
