Overview

There are many opportunities to get involved in the community with us at Mesa Parks and Rec! Groups or individuals looking for up-to-date opportunities to volunteer in their community are encouraged to apply online with the volunteers application. For those interested in completing an internship please apply via the internships application.

 

Internships

To be considered for an internship, candidates must submit the following items:

  1. Cover Letter
  2. Resume
  3. Internship Application(PDF, 195KB)

Submit one copy of each of the documents listed above in PDF format to PRCFVolunteers@mesaaz.gov.

*Please note that Mesa does not currently accept Recreation Therapy interns for the summer semester.

Recreation Internship (only) Application deadlines:

  • Winter/Spring (January-April) – October 1st
  • Summer (May-August) – March 1st
  • Fall (September-December) – May 1st

Our programs and events depend on the kindness of volunteers to help us be successful. We believe getting parents/guardians and community members involved with our events and programs add to the quality of our work and its overall success. With your support, we are able to provide some of the best experiences to our community.

Teen Leadership Training (TLT)

Apply to Be a TLT Today!(PDF, 3MB)

The TLT program gives teenagers the opportunity have fun during the summer while learning valuable skills for the employment world. Teens volunteer at summer camps and programs throughout Mesa, assisting with group games, craft projects, swimming trips, and much more! Volunteers gain experience following a work schedule and dress code, building valuable skills for the future. Adaptive Recreation

Our Adaptive Programs depend on the kindness of volunteers to assist our coaches and staff within our programs. This opportunity is specific to working with individuals with developmental disabilities. We believe getting parents/guardians and community members involved with our programs adds to their quality and success. Programs are running all year round. Times, locations, and activities can vary depending on the season. One time and seasonal opportunities are available.

Celebrate Mesa

The Special Events Office is responsible for planning, coordinating and executing a wide range of events and activities that cater to various community interests and needs like Celebrate Mesa. It takes a lot of hands to make some of our city sponsored events happen, and some of that support comes from volunteers.

Some of the different roles with this event are:

Celebrate Mesa - Event runner, entrance volunteers, Living Green area volunteers (spring only), carnival games attendants, inflatables attendants, water runners, train line attendants, trash pickup, set up and breakdown help, etc.

Athletics Volunteer Coaches

We are always recruiting for coaches! Coaches are needed for Basketball, Volleyball, and Flag Football.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old and older
  • Complete the Volunteer Coach Application, web-based background check, fingerprinting, and ID badge.
  • Attend Mandatory Coaches’ Meeting.
  • Abide by the Coach’s Code of Ethics, Coach Handbook and League Rulebook.

Volunteer Coaches Receive

  • Training with expert guest speakers
  • Free reserved practice facility space (outdoor space includes lights)
  • Sports equipment to use during practices and games
  • First-Aid kit
  • Health and wellness educational material
  • Practice management resources
  • Working with kids and parents resources
  • Awards and recognition
  • Opportunity to earn one free registration for a future Youth Sports league.

Junior Lifeguarding (JLG)

Become a Junior Lifeguard!

The Junior Lifeguard program equips youth (13 – 15 years old) the knowledge, skills, and positive attitude, needed to become responsible volunteers and future lifeguards.

The Junior Lifeguard program qualifies for HONOR FOR EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE-LEARNING for Mesa Public Schools high school students (going into 9th grade).

Recreation Centers

Volunteers at Recreation Centers will work in different areas of the center. Roles may include:

  • Special Interest classes – assist instructors with setting up materials, guiding participants and administrative tasks.
  •  After school program – Working with youth, assisting staff in games, crafts, and special events
  •  Red Mountain Center – assist with front desk operations, facility prep
