Fire Prevention works closely with local businesses to support fire safety in public spaces.
Fire Safety Operational Permits (FSOPs) are required for all occupancies within the City of Mesa (excluding one and two-family dwellings and home-based businesses). Annual FSOPs document business and contact information and provide a focused survey and inspection of the operation and/or building to help ensure fire safety requirements are maintained.
- All applications are filed, maintained, and renewed in the city's DIMES Portal
- An application is required for each location
- FSOPs are renewed annually. (The frequency of a supporting fire inspection varies by Risk Classification(PDF, 183KB))
- FSOPs expire at the end of the month listed on the permit
- Access and print your permit copy from the DIMES portal. We do not mail a hard copy of your permit.

How To:
Fire inspections support community safety by identifying hazards and ensuring that businesses are in compliance with adopted Fire Code. Inspections are conducted by certified Fire Inspectors in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines, and in consideration of department staff resources, so are generally not scheduled.
- The Risk Classification of the occupancy determines how often inspections are performed. Risk Classifications(PDF, 183KB) are established by occupancy type, use, and size.
