Citizen Police Academy

Since 1991, the Mesa Police Department's Citizen Police Academy (CPA) has provided members of our community with an inside look at law enforcement. The CPA is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the operations and resources of the Mesa Police Department. Participants will interact with police executives and veteran officers during the academy. The goal of the CPA is to provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement's role in our community.

Eligibility Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Reside or work in the City of Mesa
  • No prior felony arrests
  • No misdemeanor arrests within one year of application
  • A background clearance is conducted prior to class start date

Upcoming Dates

The CPA is an eight (8) session academy held over the course of eight (8) weeks. You must be able to attend both Saturdays and only miss one (1) Thursday.

Thursdays: 5:30 to 8:30 pm
Saturdays: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

One-day Community Engagement Academy

Mesa Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (MCPAAA)

Graduates of the Citizen Police Academy are eligible to join the Mesa Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (MCPAAA). Alumni members receive continued training and volunteer opportunities with the Mesa Police Department.
