"Scorpions After Dark” is a Ranger-led educational gathering and short hike for the whole family willing to meet scorpions in their desert home (at a safe distance!)
Date and Time: August 13 AND August 14, both nights at 7 PM.
Location: Red Mountain Park, 7745 E. Brown Road. North entrance by traffic light at Brown and Sterling roads. Desert side with no ramadas.
What to bring: UV / blacklight flashlights if you have them, a limited number will be made available to borrow for participants. A headlamp or flashlight with a red mode may be helpful for navigation during the walk. Water bottles and closed-toed shoes.
What to leave home: Dogs, strollers that can’t get dirty, and any kind of scorpion spray or bug killer – this is a nature appreciation hike only!
What to expect: A verbal and visual introduction to the scorpion species of the area we might encounter, a relaxed walk through the unpaved desert area of the park to visit scorpion habitat and find them in the wild, and a debrief afterwards for water, critters seen, and materials to take home.
No registration required. Arrive approximately 15 minutes before the event.
