Cockpit Close-Up is a FREE event to be held 8-10 a.m. the first Saturday of each month. The next event will be held Saturday, April 6 at the airport terminal building, 4800 E. Falcon Drive.
The event features volunteer pilots based at Falcon Field and their private aircraft. On April 6 the featured pilot will be Rick with his 2024 CubCrafters XCub tailwheel backcountry plane. Get a close-up look and talk to the pilot about the aircraft, flight training, flight knowledge & experiences, aviation careers, etc. Questions are welcome! It's a great opportunity for those who are considering flight training or a career in aviation!
We asked Rick a few questions about his love of aviation:
- What do you currently fly?
A 2024 CubCrafters XCub tailwheel backcountry plane
- What would you like to fly?
I’m happy with what I have, but if I was dreaming, an F-35 would be fun!
- When or how did you fall in love with aviation?
I always had an interest in aviation. My uncle in Switzerland flew us back when we moved back to the U.S. in 1969, in a Swissair Boeing 707. In those days we were still allowed to come up to the cockpit in mid-flight, and I got to see the view from there over the Atlantic! But I didn’t learn to fly until later for fun, and I’ve been flying recreationally for 35 years. The last 10 years after I retired from my executive career in high tech, I started SunCountry Cubs, which is the southwest representative for CubCrafters aircraft. I’m fortunate enough to be able share my passion for flying with others!
