Mesa’s Municipal Veterans Treatment Court
As Americans, we must keep in mind the enduring debt we owe our country’s military veterans. We must always remember the dangers our military men and women are confronted with in combat and the serious challenges facing our veterans when they return home. Sadly, these challenges can sometimes lead our veterans to be involved in the criminal justice system. Many of these issues can be connected to the trauma of combat and other service‐related experiences and, for this reason, require appropriate measures to address them. Mesa's Municipal Veterans Treatment Court is designed to do just that.
With all veterans being eligible, Mesa’s Veterans Treatment Court will identify the behavioral health issues and criminogenic factors that have resulted in veterans or service members entering the criminal justice system and order the development of a case treatment plan to address issues such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder [PTSD], Traumatic Brain Injury [TBI], substance abuse, domestic violence, anger management and/or mental health disorders while helping ensure the public's safety. Mesa’s Veterans Treatment Court combines rigorous treatment and personal accountability with the goal of breaking the cycle of criminal behavior.
Mesa’s Veterans Treatment Court partners with the Phoenix VA Health Care network, the Phoenix VA Benefits Administration, the State of Arizona, community healthcare providers, volunteer veteran mentors and veteran's family support organizations so as to ensure a coordinated response to the veteran’s needs. This partnership has proven to be an effective approach for our veterans and helps ensure that they become meaningful members of our community.
Our Nation’s veterans deserve nothing less.
