Alston HouseThe home of Dr. Lucius Alston, now known as the Alston House Center for Peace and Justice, is a 1922 white stucco bungalow, which sits in the Washington Park/Escobedo area of Mesa. The two-story stucco structure was quite grand for its time.

At some point, Dr. Alston’s heirs donated it to the non-profit Valley of the Sun Habitat for Humanity, which had plans to tear down the house, but city officials and community organizations stepped in. A concerted effort developed for the city to obtain the property due to its historical significance. Officials for the City of Mesa and non-profit organizations worked out a land swap in 2007, trading the house for two vacant parcels on the city’s west side. City officials and community organizations had a large undertaking ahead.

After making necessary renovations to the property the Alston House is now ready for community use.

The space can accommodate up to 12 people and is best for small group meetings, board meetings, book clubs and small gatherings.
