What is an outage management system (OMS)?
Simply stated, an OMS is software that allows for automated rapid detection and location of electric service interruptions.

What are the benefits of an OMS?
The OMS will improve communication, plus customers will be able to report outages via text or email, as well as receive updates when service is restored. A map that will show exactly where an outage is located and aid in troubleshooting and reducing outage times.

Will there be additional benefits once smart meters are installed?
Yes! The OMS will work with smart meters to automatically alert utility personnel of service interruptions, eliminating the need for customers to email, text, or call the utility.

Why is the City of Mesa making these improvements?
OMS and smart metering are components of Mesa’s Smart City initiative. Mesa is using available technology to enhance its services and to benefit residents and enhance services. Although the OMS and smart meters will be new to Mesa, they have been utilized for many years in communities around the world.
