"We fully support the City of Mesa and their forward-thinking Climate Action Plan, which is in alignment with Meta’s sustainability efforts both in Mesa and globally. We’re proud that our Mesa Data Center will be supported by 100% renewable energy through a partnership with Salt River Project, which will bring 450 megawatts of new solar energy to the local electric grid. Additionally, the data center will be LEED Gold certified and we’ll be diverting most of the construction waste to recycling centers. As such, we are undertaking several initiatives, as part of our continuing expansion, to increase our level of sustainability. These include plans to add solar panel covered parking and roof-mounted solar panels in 2023, which will offset about 15% of the site's current use of electric power. Inside our facility, we are achieving water savings through unique conservation methods. Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge in 2019, committing to reach net-zero carbon by 2040—10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement. To reach its goal, Amazon will continue to reduce emissions across its operations by taking real business actions and establishing a path to power its operations with 100% renewable energy, five years ahead of the company’s original target of 2030.
