Thank you for your interest in the Mesa Electric Shade Tree Program. Residents who receive their electric service from the City of Mesa (not SRP) are invited to participate in the program.
We are excited to offer this program as part of our Trees Are Cool Initiative. Desert-adapted shade trees can lower outdoor temperatures, lower home cooling costs when placed properly, green our neighborhoods, and clean the air – all without using a lot of water.

Trees Are Cool Initiative
Mesa launched the "Trees are Cool" initiative in February 2023 to increase shade across Mesa, lower the urban heat island effect in our neighborhoods, and cool our communities during the hot summer months. "Trees are Cool" challenges residents and businesses to help increase the City's tree canopy coverage to 15 percent over the next 27 years. To reach this crucial milestone, Mesa has set a target of planting 1,000,000 trees in Mesa by 2050. That’s a lofty goal and we'll need everyone’s help to achieve it. You can learn more about the initiative, get helpful guidance on tree selection, planting and care, and record your newly planted trees on our Trees Are Cool website.
