City of Mesa Solid Waste customers can use the Residential Landfill Use Program to receive a discounted rate at the landfill once per month. Please continue reading for program eligibility, guidelines, participating locations, and other important details.
Who can use the program?
- Current City of Mesa Solid Waste customers with rate codes R1.2, R1.2A, R1.2B, R1.24, R1.25, R1.26, R1.27, R1.29, R2.9A or R2.9B.
- Customers must present an original or electronic copy of their current or previous month's Mesa utility bill and a valid driver's license. The name and/or address on the utility bill must match the driver's license. Online billing customers may show their utility bill on a mobile device but for faster service, a printed copy is recommended.
Program Guidelines:
- The Residential Landfill Program allows Mesa Solid Waste customers to dump up to 2,000 pounds of non-hazardous waste once per month.
- Upon using this service, a $15 charge will be added to your next Mesa utility bill.
- If your load exceeds 2,000 pounds, you will be charged for the entire load. Credit is not given for the first 2,000 pounds.
- Loads must be covered or securely tied down in a one-ton (non-commercial) vehicle. Customers using a vehicle larger than one-ton will be required to pay the standard landfill rate.
- Customers will be responsible for paying surcharges associated with uncovered loads, including infrequent fees such as crushing or burial. Please contact participating vendors listed below with additional questions.
- Crushing, although relatively infrequent, would apply to items like a pop-up camper or a gutted boat. These are items that may weigh less than 2,000 pounds but have a sufficient volume requiring them to be crushed.
- Burial fees are required to accommodate rapidly decomposing waste, such as a refrigerator full of spoiled food or animals. These are relatively infrequent, but a hole must be dug at the landfill to accommodate the rapidly decomposing waste.
- Safety update: Effective August 11th, 2024, Republic Services will require customers to wear a hard hat while visiting their facilities. If you do not already have a hard hat, they will be available for purchase at Republic Services disposal sites. At this time, a hard hat is not required at the Salt River Landfill. For your safety, the we recommend always wearing protective equipment including a hard hat, puncture-resistant gloves, closed-toed shoes, sunscreen and a safety vest during your visit to any disposal site.
Freon Appliances:
- All appliances containing freon must have a receipt from a certified refrigeration technician showing that Freon was removed according to federal law.
- Without this receipt, the Salt River Landfill will assess a Freon removal charge of up to $10 per appliance.
- Republic Services does not accept any appliances containing Freon at any of their disposal sites.
